Washington Monument

I got tickets to go up the Washington Monument now that the repairs are completed.  So our first adventure for this summer was to take a trip into DC and see the view.

We started out early because I got the earliest tickets and we wanted to get a free parking space and walk over.  So we got some bagels from Panera and sat on a bench and had breakfast.  The birds were greedy little beggars who wouldn't leave us alone while we ate.

The water at the tidal basin was really high.  Those geese are on the sidewalk.

That's the line forming to get walk up tickets.  Glad I paid the $8 convenience fee and had them mailed to me!

They wanted to know if they could touch the monument!!

View from inside the elevator before the doors closed!

How would you like to climb the ladder to get to the ladder to go to the peak to fix something?

After being up on the top floor (500 feet up), you walk downstairs to the mini museum and they have lots of information about the monument.

Happy 12th Birthday

to my big boy Ian!!

We had a family celebration on Saturday since Darren had to travel this week.  He got a new sleeping bag with mosquito netting covering it for camp, he got some Halo guy action figures and a Plants vs Zombies Xbox game.  For his birthday he invited his friend to spend the night.

Pack Crossover

Evan became a WEBELO scout tonight!  We had a pack meeting where he got another silver arrow point and then they crossed the bridge to become Webelos.  We also invited the kindergarteners to come and join the pack and we will have a lot of tigers next year!

A Life of Politics

My oldest is throwing his hat in the ring and running for school treasurer!  I've never been one for politics so I never had any interest in running for student council.  I'm nervous for him and so incredibly proud of him for doing something that would terrify me!!  He worked hard on his posters and got to hang them up in the school yesterday.

Voting is next week --  I'll let you know how he does!!

Finally made it to the Third Grade field trip!!

After two cancellations because of snow, we finally made it to the garden to learn about metamorphosis.  Granted Darren did wake up this morning and asked if it had snowed last night.

The kids learned about butterflies and frogs and also got to dissect a flower.
