Cub Scout Adventures

We went to the scout camp this weekend in town for Ian's Cub Scout Family Campout. This is the first time the boys have camped outside and they loved it. They had activities planned for all day Saturday morning.

We started off learning how to use a compass and following a compass course.


After that we went on a nature hike and learned about 20 different native Texas plants. We also saw some deer!


I love this picture even though it is a bit blurry since I was chasing them down. It reminded me of the movie Stand By Me as they were all running down the trails.

Next came craft time. They learned how to read Native American picto-grams and then made Indian head dresses and drew their own picto-grams on them. Ian's was all about a hunter who finds a platypus, kills the platypus and brings it home. Evan, well Evan wasn't excited about making a hat since he doesn't like to wear hats. His picto-gram was just a guy goes home.

I did get Evan to put the head dress on long enough to take a picture.

After eating some lunch we met out on the field and shot our homemade bottle rockets off. It was really cool. Ian's went the highest I think and he was even nice enough to let his little brother try using it too.





After a play in their pool and a really good dinner we had campfire. This is when they got their awards and also crossed over to their next rank.

The next morning when we woke up the kids wanted to check out this little hut made out of sticks that was made near where we pitched out tent. Pretty cool! Luckily no snakes!!

Art Show and Graduation

Here is the sculpture that Evan has been working on for months now in secret in his class room. He was so excited to get to show it to us tonight at the art show at school. ((if you ask, he will tell you all about this and what everything on it is))After the art show they sang Jesus Loves Me and I was so proud because Evan knew most of the signs too!!

He's a LADYBUG for one more day!!!

Evan has talked about being a ladybug since Ian was in Kindergarten and we were lucky that Evan got to be a ladybug at Preschool!!!

Swimming Lessons

Pictures of the boys at swimming lessons. They have both gotten very confident in the water. Evan has really started to trust his instructor a lot in the last couple of weeks and he has him diving into the water will little help these days.

At least his dives are improving, they aren't just complete belly flops that used to make even me hurt.
Ian has a VERY strong breast stroke. Probably has something to do with those long arms and legs!!

Just a couple of layouts that I did for some Anniversary Challenges at ScrapSupply this weekend.

Birdie Eviction!

OK so in our laundry room there is this vent in the ceiling. I like it because it can get humid in there when you are doing loads and loads of laundry. Lately we have heard chirps from there so Darren went out and cleaned out it today. He pulled all of that out by hand because it was so tightly packed in between the joists that the vacuum couldn't get it out. I say between the joists because when Darren pulled off the housing the tube wasn't even hooked up to the little thing on the outside so birds were just going in and using it as a house.
Guess tomorrow we will be visiting Lowes yet again this weekend to buy a thingy for the outside that has a little cage to keep the birdies out. ((And yes thing/thingy is the technical term for that metal part on the outside of the vent!!!))

Preschool Field Trip

Evan's class had a field trip to the "jumpy place" and a picnic afterward yesterday. We got there right before it opened it was cute to see them all lining up waiting ... cough ... patiently for them to open the gate and let us in.This HUGE slide was a big hit. I remember the last time we came here Evan was terrified to go down it. Big difference a year makes.
One of the little boy's dad was pumping the air hockey machine full of quarters for the kids to play. Evan was squealing with joy when he made a goal!!
Had to take a break and get something to eat because too much playing and an empty stomach isn't a good thing.
Then we went to the park for lunch. After lunch the kids all ran to the playscape for some more fun.

End of another season!!!

Ian's last game of the season was last Saturday. He played really well and is trying harder to get more aggressive and not just sit back and watch when the other kids have the ball. At one point he had the ball and was surrounded by kids from the other team and one of the other dads heard him say "I could use a little help here". So typically something Ian would say.
At one point he got the ball and ran away with it towards the goal!!

Our next practice was a picnic to celebrate the end of the season and pass out trophies and medals. Here is one of Evan eating (of course - I don't know where that kid puts all the food at).
