Twilight Tattoo

We haven't ever been over to Fort Myer to see the Twilight Tattoo (here's a LINK if you are interested in what it is) and since the Army Surgeon General was hosting this week's we decided to go check it out.  The boys loved the canons and gun fire in the different shows.  We'll have to go again later before the summer is over because we left when it started raining and I think the boys would really like seeing the drill team.  Plus we can bring our own chairs and sit closer next time!

Now if anyone knows where I can find a fife teacher.  Ian wants to play the fife!

More fun on Lake Accotink

Took the boys back over to Lake Accotink because Ian wanted to canoe and we met up with the group of Evan's friends and their families.  Evan and I took out a pedal boat on the lake and went all the way around.  It was hard work, especially since I was doing all the pedaling!  Plus Evan needs to be given a weight so he can even out the boat a bit!

Here's a pic of Ian and Darren in their canoe.

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge - aka Mosquito Island

We braved the mosquitos and found the observation station and were not disappointed because the wild ponies were out!!

This is Evan "creeping", I told him he had to be quiet so he wouldn't scare the ponies.

Chincoteague Island - night of arrival

When we checked into our hotel, we told the lady behind the desk we were there to see the ponies and she told us they had just finished the auction and the ponies that were too small to be sold were still penned up outside the fairgrounds to be taken back to the wildlife refuge.

And she also told us to check out this little shop, the owner had bought a few ponies and brings them out where people can pet and feed them.

Yorktown

As we drove from Busch Gardens to Chincoteague Island, we saw a sign for Battle of Yorktown.  Being with a military guy and two boys who enjoy all things Army we had to stop.

Busch Gardens - Williamsburg

Took off for a little holiday and used our free military passes to Busch Gardens.  Ian and Darren rode all the roller coasters and Evan and I did the tame ones!  We rode the water rides first and spent most of the day wet which helped keep us cool.
