Last Day of School

Awards Assembly -- both boys did really great academically and got lots of awards.

And Ian was voted in as treasurer for the student council next year!!  YAY!!

Happy 12th Birthday

to my big boy Ian!!

We had a family celebration on Saturday since Darren had to travel this week.  He got a new sleeping bag with mosquito netting covering it for camp, he got some Halo guy action figures and a Plants vs Zombies Xbox game.  For his birthday he invited his friend to spend the night.

Pack Crossover

Evan became a WEBELO scout tonight!  We had a pack meeting where he got another silver arrow point and then they crossed the bridge to become Webelos.  We also invited the kindergarteners to come and join the pack and we will have a lot of tigers next year!

A Life of Politics

My oldest is throwing his hat in the ring and running for school treasurer!  I've never been one for politics so I never had any interest in running for student council.  I'm nervous for him and so incredibly proud of him for doing something that would terrify me!!  He worked hard on his posters and got to hang them up in the school yesterday.

Voting is next week --  I'll let you know how he does!!

Finally made it to the Third Grade field trip!!

After two cancellations because of snow, we finally made it to the garden to learn about metamorphosis.  Granted Darren did wake up this morning and asked if it had snowed last night.

The kids learned about butterflies and frogs and also got to dissect a flower.

The Hike That Wasn't A Hike

We signed up to do the Lord Baden-Powell History of Scouting Trail "hike" this weekend. I was expecting a hike not a scavenger hunt through Washington DC. After over 10 miles of walking in circles we finally ended at the Spy Museum and got our medals for finishing. This was a tough hike in the fact that some of the clues stumped even Darren and I and we had to rely on trusty google to help us out. Along the way there were "photo challenges" and here are the pics we took.

Our first picture was us with FDR's trusty friend. 

Semifore "I" and "E" in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

At the WW2 Memorial we had to find our state of birth and take a picture in front of it.

 At Butt's fountain.  HEE HEE, I said BUTT.

We took a picture in front of the White House, even though it wasn't one of the challenges because they looked so cute in their uniforms.

 We had to take a picture in front of the Boy Scout Memorial.  And then we read the directions and the scout's feet were supposed to be planted in the grass.  So we took another one!

And lastly, we had to recreate the photo below from the 1937 Boy Scout Jamboree in Washinton DC.

Color Guard

Ian is part of his school's color guard and for Memorial Day they did a flag ceremony for the school.

Shakespeare Festival

Ian got to go to Paul VI High School to perform with the Shakespeare Club.  Here is a video of his big dance scene.  They were one of six other schools performing, so he got to see a bunch of other schools do different Shakespeare plays.

Night of the Arts

The kids work hard in their art and music classes all year long.  The school's Night of the Arts is a great showcase of all their hard work.  The art teacher puts out art from each student that they have done throughout the year and then the Shakespeare Club puts on their play, the choir sings and the band plays.
