So Day One of our trip to Beijing China. We left at really really dark time and rode for almost 2 hours on a bus that the heat was broken. Guess they were trying to get us ready for China.
Once we got to the airport and through security, we decided to get some lunch before we got on the plane because we knew once we hit the ground we would be at the mercy of our tour group. So we stopped and ate at a little Thai place and I had this dish that had mussels in it. I talked Ian into trying one and that started our weekend of trying new foods.
He ate it and said it was pretty good, I don't know that he would eat a plate full of them but mixed into my Pad Thai it wasn't too bad.
Once we got to Beijing we were greeted with lots of McDonalds (wish we would have gone inside one now that we are back home to see what "special" things they have there -- like beer with your combo meal back in Germany and the bulgogi burger in Korea).
They have KFCs on every other corner too and our guide Sophia told us that KFC stands for Kung Fu Chicken.
Our first stop on the tour was an aerobatic show. It was really neat and the boys really enjoyed it A LOT!

He started with just one and kept on going until he had done 5 at one time (with all the other ones still on his head) and ended with a flower inside a flower pot!!
Now on film this doesn't look too difficult but those hoops are actually rotating!
The Emperor pulled out this giant metal ball and we all knew a motorcycle driver was coming!

Yes I said FOUR! Our tour guide said one night they did like 7, which is CRAZY!
Next we went out for our Thanksgiving dinner which was Peking Duck. Our guide told us about the different ways they make the duck and we even got to see them carve the duck. Everyone liked the food while we were there. The duck was very good and I liked the roasted one better than the steamed.
Evan liked the noodles. He also really listened to the stories our guide told him. Like how you can't drink the water in Beijing because it is dirty and how they take the parts of the duck we don't eat like the feet to make the soup. So when the soup was served Evan let us all know that it tasted like dirty water with duck feet in it.

After that we went back to our hotel to check in. What a beautiful place!
