We have been keeping busy here with trying to get settled in. We found an apartment off post to live in until we get post housing. It is about a mile and a half outside the gate, so not too far. The school bus comes right into the neighborhood here to pick up the kids to take them on post for school which is nice, I don't have to walk them on any of these crazy skinny roads.
Well I ended up in the hospital for a day (this was before the fourth of July, I just haven't mentioned it). I got dehydrated and got kidney stones. Here is the weird 1/3 pound hotdog that did me in. I ate a bite and then got sick. That's when I went to the ER and they showed me the country-side via ambulance.
I liked how they do their medication over here. I ended up in a Korean hospital because the small little clinics where we are didn't have a urologist. Instead of giving you lots of little bottles you get these little packets with your name and number on them and you take one packet as prescribed. So nice for when you are on the go, just grab the number of packets you need and go.
We got our car right after I got done at the hospital. Which is nice because we had to figure out a way besides ambulance to get me back up there for my follow-up. Here are some pictures of the countryside. We live in the country - rice country.
And I love their tire shops how they are set up going straight up to not take up more space than is necessary.
After my follow up appointment we stopped at Osan Air Base and checked out their PX and commissary because supposedly it is much bigger than Hump's. It is, but only marginally. Well the one thing Osan does have is they have a Chili's right on post. We stopped for lunch and celebrated a belated birthday to me.
The only nice restaurant we have on post at Hump is the Alaskan Mining Company and it is good but it isn't Chili's. Outside the Alaskan Mining Company they have this sign showing how far everything is.

Found this weird sign while we were walking around. I wonder what you can exchange your underwear for or if their prices are just that bad that you will need to exchange your underwear?
I impressed Darren and was able to ask "How much?" and got the boys some Lego look alikes. They are made in China and the boys think the guys are the Russians from Indiana Jones and play that they are the bad guys. They work perfect with the regular Legos.
And now for one of the things we see all the time going on or leaving post. They are doing a lot of construction and digging on and around post. I don't know if it is a losing battle this guy is fighting or job security but his job is to sweep up after the dump trucks and unload here. He does it with what looks like a homemade wisk broom.
And one last picture. I got my hair done because it really needed it and Darren says I am going native because it is really dark. I think she did a great job.
Taking pictures of fireworks is fun but I never really get a great shot. Every year I try though. We are staying in the Army Lodging right now and just ran outside in time for the fireworks to kick off. We ended up climbing the stairs to the upper balcony of some abandoned barracks to watch the fireworks. For a tiny little base they had a really long and super good fireworks display. Here are a couple of my better shots.

It's the 4th of July today and we decided to take advantage of a little bit of sunshine to head out and look around. We drove around post first so that Darren could show us some things he found on post.
Here is the second Burger King on post. Obviously there is no indoor seating!! Heck there is hardly an indoors!!
We drove around the little town just outside of post too. Found a nice little park and the boys really needed to run around for awhile so we stopped.
The sidewalk leading up the big hill, it had this nice ramp that was pretty vertical! When we first came off the plane and drove to the first hotel, we passed lots of parks and were told they had fitness equipment in the park for people to use. The park near our apartment has it too!
I wish you could read the name of the machine Ian is sitting on. In the states it would be called a "body rider" but this one is titled "bony rider", I wonder if that is another of those lost in translation things!!

Some more highlights of things I have seen while up in Seoul. One of my favorites is seeing some of the signs around Korea, sometimes some things get lost in translation.
I'd hate to get TOWERED because I parked there!!
And in the PX on Yongsun, I found Martha Stewart!! Too bad she isn't down at Humphreys, I'll have to check Osan to see if I can get stuff closer to me.
And finally we left the Dragon Hill Lodge and got on our way to Camp Humphrey. Check out all our luggage we had to travel with!! I loved the curtains on the bus!!
Well we have made it off post. We went with a friend into Itaewon which is the shopping district of Seoul tonight for dinner. We ate at Ho Lee Chow (yes say it out loud -- it is funny) which was a great Chinese food restaurant. And then we walked back to post through the shops. We found this board that you could stand next to and take your picture, so we did. People did giggle at us on the street.
After dinner we walked down towards post and decided to keep going a couple of blocks to the Korean War Museum. The 25th was the 65th anniversary of the war. They were having a big outdoor concert like we would see at the Capital Building in Washington DC on Memorial Day. The boys enjoyed getting to climb on and look at all the army stuff.

They also have this traditional temple where they did traditional Korean weddings. It was very pretty.
And lastly let me say I am not impressed with the new blogger way to upload pictures. Going to have to get used to it.
