August 1 - self portrait

I really do not like having my picture taken so the prompt of "self portrait" is always tough for me.  But I'm not hiding behind my shadow or my camera.  Here I am!

Getting ready for the 30 day challenge

So I've been looking at the list (is that cheating?) and trying to figure out what I want to take for my picture for each prompt.  #1 is going to be hard because I hate (and I don't use that word very often) pictures of myself.  Some people just aren't photogenic and I happen to be one of them.  My boys, they are - they have that sparkle in their eyes and crooked smile that just makes you smile when you see their pictures.  So that is where I am stuck, thinking about day #1 and having to take a picture of myself.  Anyone got any ideas?

Evan gets really brave!

Evan got brave really quick.  We went to swimming lessons on Wednesday and he told me all matter of fact that he was going to jump off the diving board.  I said okay that's cool!  Well he did it!  I didn't have my camera for the first set of jumps but he promised he would do it again on Friday if I did bring it!  Mr. "Swiss" his teacher was so impressed and I think a little shocked that he did it!

August 2011

I feel like I have been a major slacker lately.  We haven't done anything exciting and I haven't really pulled my camera out to do anything with it.  But with August I am going to try to be more active.  I am going to try to do a 30 days in photos kind of thing.  I found a blog called OH SO LOVELY and they are hosting a 30 day challenge with 30 prompts and all.  So I am going to give it the good old fashioned try and maybe justify all the money Darren just spent on that new lens that should be here Saturday night (oh how I can't wait to get my hands on that 70-200 f/2.8!!)!

Evan takes a plunge

So far this summer we have done the first two sessions of swimming lessons on post.  And today we started session three, I figure since it won't stop monsooning outside at least the boys are getting plenty of pool time for the summer!

Well Evan has come a long way from the kid who was afraid to jump off the side of the pool.  He is now jumping off the starting block and swimming to the side unassisted.  If only we could get him to swim in the 4 foot side of the pool as well as the 11 foot side!

It's amazing what a little confidence will do for someone!!

SoKo Shutterbugs Play Again

My shutterbug friends all got together for another little photog outing this week.  Since the kids are out of school we met up a local park just off post to let the kids play and for us to practice taking pictures of moving targets!  We were working on playing with the Shutter Speed Priority on our cameras and I did pull my camera off AV and put it on TV for most of the day with some pretty decent results.

I made the boys jump off of benches and walls for me!  ((which by the way they happily did - notice mine are dressed in their full Nerf battle gear!))

And I made them run for me!!

They played on the Korean exercise equipment that is at all the parks!  Notice Ian's level of concentration in lifting his own body weight!

We had races!

It was fun to get out of the house and luckily the rain stayed away just long enough for us to play at the park for awhile!

Underwater

Summer vacation has come to South Korea and we have been busy with swimming lessons and more swimming for fun!  So yes we are still here we are just underwater - literally!

PS - this is my new toy for summer.  For my birthday the boys all got me a little point and shoot camera that I can take underwater!  So much fun playing with this thing and it takes great pics!!

Evan's Last Day of Kindergarten!

Evan made it through Kindergarten!  I'm really proud of this little guy, he has learned a lot this year!  Here is a pic on the last day of school in front of our building!
