Exploring Our Little Area

It's the 4th of July today and we decided to take advantage of a little bit of sunshine to head out and look around.  We drove around post first so that Darren could show us some things he found on post.

Here is the second Burger King on post.  Obviously there is no indoor seating!!  Heck there is hardly an indoors!!

We drove around the little town just outside of post too.  Found a nice little park and the boys really needed to run around for awhile so we stopped.

The sidewalk leading up the big hill, it had this nice ramp that was pretty vertical!  When we first came off the plane and drove to the first hotel, we passed lots of parks and were told they had fitness equipment in the park for people to use.  The park near our apartment has it too!

I wish you could read the name of the machine Ian is sitting on.  In the states it would be called a "body rider" but this one is titled "bony rider", I wonder if that is another of those lost in translation things!!

Foggy Day in Seoul

Weekend we spent in Seoul before leaving it was a rainy foggy weekend.  Check out these pictures from out our window looking at the Seoul Tower.

It just rolled in really quickly.  I think these pictures were taken like 5 minutes apart.

More from Yongsun and On Our Way to Humphrey

Some more highlights of things I have seen while up in Seoul.  One of my favorites is seeing some of the signs around Korea, sometimes some things get lost in translation.
I'd hate to get TOWERED because I parked there!!

And in the PX on Yongsun, I found Martha Stewart!!  Too bad she isn't down at Humphreys, I'll have to check Osan to see if I can get stuff closer to me.

And finally we left the Dragon Hill Lodge and got on our way to Camp Humphrey.  Check out all our luggage we had to travel with!!  I loved the curtains on the bus!!

Another Day in Seoul

Well we have made it off post. We went with a friend into Itaewon which is the shopping district of Seoul tonight for dinner.  We ate at Ho Lee Chow (yes say it out loud -- it is funny) which was a great Chinese food restaurant.  And then we walked back to post through the shops.  We found this board that you could stand next to and take your picture, so we did.  People did giggle at us on the street.

After dinner we walked down towards post and decided to keep going a couple of blocks to the Korean War Museum.  The 25th was the 65th anniversary of the war.  They were having a big outdoor concert like we would see at the Capital Building in Washington DC on Memorial Day.  The boys enjoyed getting to climb on and look at all the army stuff.

They also have this traditional temple where they did traditional Korean weddings.  It was very pretty.



And lastly let me say I am not impressed with the new blogger way to upload pictures. Going to have to get used to it.

Pictures of our First Days

Here we are! Waiting for airplane to start boarding in Kansas City. The boys are watching the movie Stealth which Darren just happened to have on his computer.
And here are my great little travelers in South Korea. A 3.5 hour flight from Kansas City to San Francisco and then a 12 hour flight from San Francisco to Korea and they are still able to smile. They slept a lot on the flight!

And the weather has been beautiful. It has been in the 70s and not very humid.
We are staying at the Dragon Hill Lodge on Yongsan. I like the dragons in front of the building.

So there you go, some pictures of our first couple of days. We haven't ventured far because I just don't really want to go by myself and Darren is in-processing. This weekend he will be on pass so hopefully we will get out and check out a couple of things.

Makes Blogging a Bit Difficult

Well I haven't blogged in a while because we have been busy either visiting family or moving overseas but we have finally made it. We are staying in a hotel right now in Seoul South Korea while Darren finishes up his in-processing. It seems nice so far but I am not being too brave and haven't ventured out too far from the hotel yet. We will be in Seoul until next monday and then we head down to where we will be living.

This is the first time I have logged into Blogger since getting over here and it is weird because all the control buttons at the top are in Korean!! Going to have to remember which set of symbols is "new post"!!

That's all for now, I will try to get some pictures off my camera later. Maybe after I take a nap.

We are still around.

We are still around! We are in transition right now. Homeless in a way so we are staying with family until our flight leaves. Right now we are in Iowa visiting my family. But while we were in Missouri visiting Darren's we stopped at the Picture People and had our family pictures done real quick before we leave. They turned out pretty.

Just one more week and then we leave for our new adventure in Korea!! That's like 7 days can you believe it!!

2nd Grade is Officially Coming to an End

Okay I got to brag on my boy (and not because of any of his awards). Today before the second grade awards assembly I told him "Now don't rush across the stage, cause I would like to get a nice picture of you getting your award." Guess what HE LISTENED TO ME!! But you can't tell from these pictures because I was so wrapped up in getting a good picture that after he shook Ms Miller's hand he totally turned and posed and smiled right at me but at that point I had just shot two quick photos and my camera was "thinking" and I totally missed it!! But he did turn and he did smile and he slowed down just like a talked to him about. MAN!!


Anyways my little man got a whole bunch of awards! He is a smart little man! ((look he is still looking and posing))
After the awards ceremony, Ms Patterson took her kids outside to hand the parents all the awards and one of the grandmas was trying to get a picture of them all together so I helped her get them to squish together so we could get a class shot. What a good looking group of kids!!
