Feeling Crafty
Ever feel crafty but can't seem to actually make anything. Well that's how I'm feeling lately. I want to scrap, I want to sew, I want to practice my "artistic" writing, I want to quilt, I want to cross stitch, I want to knit but I am so overwhelmed with all the things I want to do that I can't really bring myself to do any of them. I think a crafty hobby is too much so times.
Well today I did make something for my desk. I had finished off the wax paper yesterday and repurposed the box and roll to make a container for my washi tape collection.
It's even got a nice little sharp metal part to tear off the tape with. :)
They look so pretty in the box, I'm sure at some point my OCD will kick in and I will have to put in the color order. But first I have to finish off the aluminum foil so I can make another box for the rest of my washi collection!!

This layout is so simple...
...but man it took me forever to put it together for some reason. I cut out the circle borders on my silhouette and I also did the title letters on my silhouette. The font is Rockwell and I printed it with my sketch pens and then cut it out. After putting them on the paper they just didn't have enough weight so I took my gold foil marker and colored them in.
I don't know why after years of scrapbooking, I'm still finding it hard to put together a layout. I used to be able to rock out a couple a day and now layouts sit on my desk for a week while I try to find exactly what I want to use. I don't know what happened. I know I took a break while in Korea because I just didn't have the space to work and it really took a toll on my mojo but now that I have the space I feel like I can't find my groove.
I think one of the things I miss is the online scrapping message boards and groups. The small ones these days seem to be filled with people who have known each other for years and aren't looking for any new "friends" and the big ones are well just big. Is there anyone out there still who scrapbooks just to scrapbook and have fun and put their memories on paper and isn't trying to be all artsy about it?

I like the word FLOCKING
It is funny to say. It feels like you are saying a bad word but it isn't really. Well it isn't unless you don't like messy things. I have had a bunch of little jars of Doodlebug flocking powder for ages. I don't remember really how long but I think they went to Korea and back so that's at least 5 years.
I've been working on trying to scrapbook more in 2015 and also to use the supplies that I have instead of buying more. I didn't have any red letter stickers so I decided to try out this flocking stuff. I pulled out some stamps and my glue pad and found that it wasn't really as messy as I thought it was going to be. Or at least it isn't as messy as glitter *shudder*!
Pictures are from May 17, 2008 and Ian's gymnastic meet at J&R Gymnastics in New Braunfels, TX. I stamped the title and also the little dotted circles with the glue and then rubbed the flocking over them.
Here is a close up, but you can't really tell but it is pretty cool and I can see me doing it again!

Catholic Schools Week
I'm homeroom mom for the seventh grade class and for the teacher appreciation lunch all the classes try to get their teacher something they can use for their class room. Ian's teacher wanted a lamp to help warm up the room a bit. So we got her a lamp but I couldn't NOT arts and crafts it up a bit and make it more personalized from the class.
So I had each of the kids sign a sheet of white paper and I scanned it and printed it all out on some vellum and then taped it to the inside of the lampshade. Now when she turns on the lamp, she will see all their names.
Plus she can always remove the stuff from inside if she decides she doesn't like it or if she wants to change it out.
Not only did the seventh graders have to get a gift for their homeroom teacher but they were also in charge of the middle school religion teacher. For her we made a prayer jar, I'd love to take credit for the idea but I found it on Pinterest when searching for religious gifts.
All the seventh graders then wrote a prayer intention and put it in the jar. I was pretty impressed with how much thought they put into their prayer intention and they really seemed to like the idea of having someone who would pray with them for something they felt in their heart.
Now hopefully we won't have a snow day so that I can get these things out of my living room!!

I scrapped over the weekend
Everyone in the family had something that they had to do this long weekend so I took advantage and used the time to join in an online crop at ScrapNYap. I forgot how much I missed online crops!
I got five layouts done for different challenges. There were a lot more challenges that I wanted to do but I was happy with getting this much done. All of these layouts were done using kits I made up for another challenge too!
5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Scrapbook Challenge = Had to use 5 of something, 4 of something, 3 of something, 2 of something and 1 scrapbooking item. I used 5 different papers, 4 photos, 3 brads & arrows, 2 journaling strips and 1 glitter tape.
Going in Circles Challenge = had to use at least 15 circles on a layout.
New Year, New Technique Challenge = I used my silhouette to make the background for this layout as my new technique.
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue Challenge = I had to use an old photo (mine's from 2008), a new scrapbooking item (my new Quirky stapler), a "borrowed" sketch, and blue (cardstock and bling).
Mad Dash Challenge = complete a layout in under 45 minutes. I did mine in less time than the show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!!

Another Recipe Challenge
I really enjoy these because they make me use things together that I wouldn't think of pulling out.
For this week's recipe challenge from ScrapNYap I had to use striped patterned paper, a grid design, enamel dots or mini brads, ink other than black and the bonus item was to use a Project Life type card (I made mine from the WRMK 3x4 photo die).
