Pinewood Derby 2011

We had our pack pinewood derby on Jan 29th (but I am just getting the pictures off my camera today).  We had a lot of fun, Ian was really proud of his surf board car, he called it Surf's Up!  He wanted to make one like that after getting smoked at our pack's pinewood derby last year and his car didn't disappoint, Ian ended up taking home first place in the pack.  Never seen him more proud of himself.  I was glad Darren was able to be there and see it!
Now to start thinking about next year cause I guess we'll have two cars in the races!  I can hear the fighting starting now!

More from the scrap table.

For the USE YOU TOOL challenge to use punches.

For the USE YOUR STASH challenge to use rub ons.
I am all caught up with the weekly challenges over at Paper Pushers.  I have actually gotten 6 layouts done so far in January and I might just make my goal of two a week!

Just an update.

Just an update on Darren.  He went in on Tuesday and his white blood count was too low to start up the second round of treatments.  So they gave him a shot to help him increase his white blood cells and let me tell you he now knows what childbirth or kidney stones feels like.  He was in so much pain.  They failed to tell him that making white blood cells quickly hurts A LOT!  When he saw the doctor the next day and asked about the bone pain side effect, the doctor said that only 1.7% of Koreans ever experience that side effect so he didn't mention it.  Well I guess Darren is part of the minority.  They rechecked his white blood cell count and in 18 hours he went from being REALLY LOW (250) to being perfectly normal again (3000+).  The doctor then told him when he saw his results that normally most people require at least 2 or 3 of these shots before they see those kinds of numbers.  Explains why only 1.7% of them feel any pain too right?
So anyways to make a long story short, he is doing better.  Pain is almost gone and luckily they aren't stingy with the pain meds when it was hurting.  He will start up his second round of chemo on next Tuesday!  Happy Lunar New Year to Darren!!

Cards

I wanted to scrap this weekend and I wanted to work on two different challenges over at Paper Pushers but there was just something screaming from my scraps box (I still need to do the punch challenge and the rub-on challenge).  I really need to just get rid of it but I have such a hard time throwing stuff out!  So I pulled out the pretty scraps from the box and I made a bunch of cards and even a couple of gift tags.  Here's what I came up with...

First Snow Day

School got cancelled today because we got snow on the ground and it is still coming down.  The kids are very excited about it but Evan was a tad confused for like 15 minutes he just kept coming up and asking "The WHOLE day?"  Like he didn't believe that they would just tell him to stay home!  They are now happily shooting Nerf guns across and house and wishing they could go outside and play in the snow.  I will probably bundle them up eventually and let them play in it for a little while since Evan has never really gotten to play in the snow before (he was a baby when we lived in Iowa).  I found some snowpants that will fit Evan but Ian will just have to layer up.  It will be good for all of us since I can go out and play with my new camera and take some wintery pictures.

Darren is getting better and is as ready as he will ever be to head back to the hospital tomorrow for round two of chemotherapy.  I hate that we both know he will get sick all over again but hopefully since we know it will happen the hospital staff will be able to help him not get quite as bad and we can send him with stuff he will want when he is feeling bad.  Plus I will have a car on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and can go visit him those days.  That will help me a bit!

I haven't been scrapping much but I did post a challenge over at Paper Pushers to use the sketch on the PageMaps blog.  Here is what I came up with as my loose interpretation of the sketch!

Layout #3 for 2011

I can't believe I did two layouts in two days!  Over at Paper Pushers, Kim had challenged us last week to use the colors green, white and pink.  Here is my version of the color challenge.
Look for a sketch challenge from me coming later on!!

Got my second page done.

It was a really long week last week with Darren being gone for his chemo.  It was hard on him.  He was sick most of the week but he will be coming home today.  I can't wait to see him and I know the boys are ready for him to be home.  One round down, three to go.  Hopefully being home will make him feel better and we'll get him ready for the next round.

Well I only got one layout done this past week but at least I have gotten one layout done a week like I wanted to, I can always catch up a little later.  Here is my layout number two for 2011!

LotteWorld

My friend's son had a birthday and his birthday wish was to go to LotteWorld with his friends.  I was so happy we got to be part of the celebration because it was the best birthday I have ever been to!!  LotteWorld is an amusement park in a mall and it is huge and awesome!  They have great rides and the people were all so nice and I loved the cool light parade at the end of the day (reminded me of Disney).  I can't wait to go back again once Darren is healthy and maybe get to hit the outside portion that we didn't even go to because it was too cold yesterday!

Here are some fun pictures of our day yesterday!!

Look at how huge this place is!!!

Like I said it was a cool place and I had such a fun time with the boys!!

Page A Week Scrapping

My friend Kim and I started up a new scrapping site during the last week of Dec.  We decided we both needed a push to start scrapping again.  It seems a lot of our friends have gotten out of the swing of scrapping regularly.  We called it Paper Pushers because we want to push people to put photos on paper again.  We also want the site to be more about using up your stash and getting back to the simplier things in scrapping than it seems a lot of sites have gotten away from with the pressure on having the perfect photo and the latest and greatest techniques.  We want to see people making themselves happy in this hobby and making memories that can be passed on forever!!

Well I came up with the first challenge and it was a recipe challenge.  The challenge was to use the following items on a page (plus anything extra you want to add).
- 3 different patterned papers
- ribbon/fabric
- handwritten journaling
- 3 different embellishments

Here is my layout.  The first of 2011 for me!  My goal is to do two layouts a week and to use up the stash I brought with me to Korea so I can take less home than I brought!!
And I actually sat down and made 2 cards using up my scraps too!  AND I LIKE THEM!!

Now to just keep it up for the rest of the year!  If you are interested in joining Paper Pushers please leave me a message and I will send you an invite if you can't get in there to register!  We would love to have any scrapper of any level who wants to motivation to scrap!!
